Chloe Kim, the coolest Olympic gold medalist on the slopes right now, has some advice: get nervous, get gold, get ice cream.
On Monday night, Kim dropped into the half pipe at Pyeongchang as the favorite to walk away with the gold. She's been a popular athlete among viewers since showing up for the Olympics, but after her nearly perfect run of 98.25, she got a lot more popular. Like, "100K mentions on Twitter" popular.
At 17-years-old, she is the youngest woman to have ever nabbed the top snowboarding spot, and if she wasn't a household name before, she is now. Coming into the event, she had about 15,000 Twitter followers, but with snowboarding getting the prime spot on NBC's Monday night line-up, Kim's Twitter account got the attention it deserves.
Of course, that has a lot to do with the performance, but it also probably helped that between runs, she hit the world with the exact kind of content we can all relate to: hangry tweets.
Wish I finished my breakfast sandwich but my stubborn self decided not to and now I'm getting hangry— Chloe Kim (@chloekimsnow) February 13, 2018
No, legitimately, a gold medalist and all-around badass took a moment from Olympic glory to let the world know about the Breakfast Sandwich That Got Away. Extremely relatable. After her first run, Kim had set herself up to win the gold, but it was her nearly perfect second pass that made her unstoppable. All the while, you can't help but think if it was the ice cream and churros pushing her along.
Oh and I also had 2 churros today and they were pretty bomb so if you ever get nervous go eat a churro— Chloe Kim (@chloekimsnow) February 11, 2018
Could be down for some ice cream rn— Chloe Kim (@chloekimsnow) February 12, 2018
In the hour or so that women's halfpipe dominated American television Monday night, Kim went from a respectable 10,000 followers to 100,000. As of this morning, the count has extended to 171,000. The most important part of it all though, you know, besides the gold, is that Chloe Kim finally got her ice cream.
