This month, the gaze of the entire film industry once again turned to Cannes in the South of France, and to world cinema. On 23 May 2026, top prizes such as the Palme d’Or and Caméra d’Or were awarded at the culmination of this year's Cannes Film Festival. From established filmmakers to emerging talent, the winners reflect a mix of bold storytelling and breakthrough work, continuing the festival's long-standing role in shaping the global film conversation.

FJORD, directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, took home the top award, the Palme d'Or. Meanwhile, Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo won the Caméra d’Or for Ben'Imana. The Caméra d’Or is awarded for a director's debut feature, and Dusabejambo's win marked a historic moment in the festival. Ben'Imana was the first ever Rwandan film to be selected for the official competition.
