Gin & Lychee Fizz: A Lunar New Year Cocktail Recipe

Mixologist Darwin Ng shares a personal favourite for the festive season
Published: February 14, 2026

As families gather for reunion dinners and open houses this week, spare a thought for the professional chefs and bartenders. While they may technically be on holiday, they'll probably be called upon to flex their skills throughout the festive season.

That's certainly the case for Darwin Ng, an award-winning mixologist and the Suntory Brand Ambassador for Malaysia. He finds himself being the family's default bartender "more often than I expect."

"Within my family and social circles, I’m usually the only one working in the bar industry, so whenever a bottle is opened, I naturally find myself behind an imaginary bar. But I enjoy it. It becomes a way of sharing moments and bringing people together," he says.

Ng, an established name in Malaysia's mixology scene, joined Suntory as a Brand Ambassador in 2025. This followed a successful stint leading KL's Bar Trigona as Bar Manager. Bar Trigona was listed as one of Asia's 50 Best Bars last year.

For the New Year festivities, Ng shares an exclusive recipe with Esquire Malaysia that can easily be mixed at home.

"Everyone is familiar with Roku Gin & Tonic with ginger serve. It's a crowd favourite," says Ng. "But I love surprising people, so a Roku Lychee Fizz does the work. It brings a fresh pop of flavour. It shows just how versatile the spirit is and gives them a novel way to enjoy gin."

"The floral sweetness of lychee pairs beautifully with Roku’s delicate botanicals, creating a drink that feels celebratory yet balanced."

Roku Lychee Fizz

  • Roku Gin - 45ml
  • Lychee syrup - 10ml
  • Fresh lemon juice - 15ml
  • Soda - 60ml
  • Garnish with salted sakura flower and Lychee on top

Build over ice, give it a gentle stir, and enjoy.
