As Formula 1 heads to Madrid this weekend, Official Timekeeper TAG Heuer has announced the release of four new Carrera Chronograph Sport models. Introduced in 1963, the Carrera chronograph was named after the gruelling Carrera Panamericana rally. The Swiss watchmaker’s latest Carrera Chronograph Sport builds on the previous iteration with contemporary proportions and a stronger emphasis on the chronograph function.

Housed in a 42mm steel case with a thickness of 14.2mm, the watch features the in-house TH20-00 automatic movement. Running at eight ticks per second, it boasts an impressive 80-hour fuel tank that will easily tide you through a Malaysian long weekend. The case is paired with a fixed ceramic tachymeter bezel, while sapphire crystals on the front and back handle display duties.

The dial eschews the usual hour markers with double-digit minute indicators. Three snail-tracked sub-dials provide chronograph functions; with a 12-hour counter on the left, a 30-minute counter on the right, and running seconds in the middle. The date window, with a colour-matched date wheel, sits discreetly at the six o’clock position of the seconds sub-dial, nicely balancing out the entire dial.

The new line comes in four different dial options. The matte black dial features matching black sub-dials and red accents all around. The green sunray-brushed and blue sunray-brushed models both feature silver sub-dials. Rounding out the collection is a hat-tip to the timeless panda dial: a silver sunray-brushed dial with contrasting black sub-dials. Of the four, the blue sunray-brushed model is also available with a fetching perforated leather rally strap instead of the steel bracelet.

The new Carrera Chronograph Sport brings a familiar racing icon to a new era, and with plenty of variations to choose from, fans will be spoiled for choice.
