The 98th Academy Awards returned to the Dolby Theatre with the usual promise of cinematic triumphs. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners dominated the nominations board with a record-breaking 16 nods. While the film was not the biggest winner of the evening, that honour went to One Battle After Another, which took home six awards from 13 nominations. Sinners still walked away with four trophies, including Michael B. Jordan’s first Best Actor win and a third Oscar for composer Ludwig Göransson.
Not every nominee left with gold, despite receiving nine nominations for Marty Supreme, Timothée Chalamet left the night empty-handed, one of the ceremony’s most talked-about snubs.
But before the statuettes were handed out, and the thank-you speeches were delivered, the red carpet had its own contest underway, a battlefield of style and sartorial.
